The Meet & Greet Author Book Launch for Worth Hayes was held at Progressive Emporium & Education Center on Sunday, December 29, 2019 from 2:00-4:00 p.m. Progressive is located at 1108 N. Sarah Street in St. Louis, MO 63113.
Worth Kamili Hayes, author of “Schools of Our Own: Black Chicago's Golden Age of Private Education” launched his book tour from his hometown of St. Louis, MO (December 28, 2019). The published work is a historical chronicle of Black Chicagoans and the emergence of private schools as a force of self-determination. Hayes, is a native of University City, Missouri; he is currently an Associate Professor of History at Tuskegee University.
Dr. Hayes’ current project “Schools of Our Own: Black Chicago’s Golden Age of Private Education,” was published by Northwestern University Press in December. His works has also been published in the American Educational History Journal, the Journal of Negro Education, and several edited volumes.
Hayes received his B.A. in History from Xavier University of Louisiana and earned his Ph.D. in History from Emory University.
